Gah!

I must not be the only one pumped for this flick because I saw 2 of these countdowns today while out and about.

Day 276: Oh Trader Joe's - how I love thee

Did you know they make delicious handmade tortillas? My TJ weakness aside from the produce. Which slays me. Om nom nom produce.

Day 274: My Easter Chick

Day 274: My Easter Chick by lalasappy
Day 274: My Easter Chick, a photo by lalasappy on Flickr.
Hello Tiny Easter Chick. You will sit on my desk at work. You're cute.

Day 273: One of my favorite people in the entire world passed away today.

I'm about to put a pretty embarrassing fact about my life out into the world:

When I was a kid…maybe around 11 years old, my favorite band of all time was The Monkees. I had all their CDs. I had books, a lunchbox, posters…you name it. I loved them. I still do. But not with the pre-teen obsession I had back then. (I kid you not, my email handle was DavyJ67…for 1967 - the band's most successful year….yep. Insert totally embarrassed face here.)

Y'know how you were all into N'SYNC or NKOTB? Yeah, I was that intensely into the Monkees. And my favorite Monkee of them all was Davy Jones. He was my first real celebrity crush. Now, I didn't really have the celebrity crush on the 51 year old version….I had the crush on the guy from the TV show. In his 20's. Charming, handsome and that accent…oh boy.

One summer I even got to go see Davy in concert with Bobby Sherman and that guy from Herman's Hermits. Davy gave me his autograph, and like the 11 year old psychotically-excited girl I was, I screamed "I LOVE YOU DAVY!" He turned, smiled and said "I love you too!"

Davy's always had a special place in my heart. When I heard of his passing, I was so sad that the world had lost such a special person. I mean, look at that smile. He spread a lot of joy.

Feel free to make fun of me now. But I'm telling you, this music legend's (YES - HE IS A LEGEND - DON'T QUESTION ME) death shocked me 1000 times more than Whitney Houston. And yes, I even shed a tear for this adorable man.

"For today there is no day or night,
Today there is no dark or light,
Today there is no black or white…
Only shades of gray"
- The Monkees

Day 272: Sick day...in bed with lots of fluids.

Via Flickr:
My iPhone camera is giving me such grainy pictures lately....I do apologize.

But yeah. Sick. Sad face. I sound like a Kathleen Turner Monster when I talk.

Day 271: Do you see what series I am almost done with?

Via Flickr:
CARNIVALE!!!!

I'm so into it. Why did this HBO series get canceled?! WHY OH WHY OH WHY?!

Day 270: A beautiful day means a walk along the West Side to the gazebo.

Via Flickr:
I'm going to miss this area when I move. Every time I walk up here, I feel inspired. The sunlight mixed with the shapes of the architecture...it's just beautiful.

Day 269: Saw this again and have decided it will make a great runningplaylist!

Via Flickr:
And Nick Adams - a BoCo Alum - stars in it! I get to run to him singing Madonna! Huzzah!

Go Weeeeest! (that's my favorite song)

Day 268: Doggie On The Subway

Via Flickr:
He was adorable and so sweet. And took a seat for himself. And had a habit of biting his leash (seen here).

Please Help Me Fight AIDS

Friends, Readers, Countrymen - Lend me your Wallets!

I am participating in AIDS Walk New York.  My team the "Hairy Backs" (don't ask...I didn't name it...) and I are really excited to walk this year! I have set an ambitious fundraising goal and I need your help reaching it!

Some background:

AIDS Walk New York, the world’s largest single-day AIDS fundraising event, benefits GMHC and more than 40 other AIDS service organizations in the tri-state area.  GMHC is the nation’s oldest and most comprehensive AIDS service organization, serving approximately 15,000 people living with HIV and AIDS each year.  The organization reaches countless more locally and nationally, through its prevention and advocacy work.

Although there has been some success with drug treatments and their ability to prolong the lives of those living with HIV/AIDS, they do not work for everyone, nor are they accessible to everyone.  These treatments can take their toll physically, mentally, and financially. I am also concerned by the alarming rate of new HIV infections in the New York City youth.  There remains an urgent need for comprehensive prevention programs that serve youth with diverse language and cultural backgrounds. The money we raise at AIDS Walk New York will help those in need living with the disease while supporting vital prevention efforts in New York City and beyond.

Here's your part:

I would be so grateful your help.  Please sponsor me for AIDS Walk New York.  Just click on the link below to visit my personal fundraising web page.  It’s quick, easy, and safe to make a donation online with a credit card, debit card, or PayPal.

(And by the way... GMHC, the primary beneficiary of AIDS Walk New York, is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) New York nonprofit corporation. Tax ID #13-3130146. All donations are tax deductible. )

After making your donation, you may be able to double your donation with a matching gift!  Please consult your human resources department, or use the matching gift search engine on the AIDS Walk New York website, to find out if your company has a matching gift program!

Thank you for supporting AIDS Walk New York and for helping put an end to this epidemic.  You can help me make a difference in the lives of people living with HIV and AIDS.

Sincerely,
Lauren

Day 267: My awesome rubber band ball. (with a post-it note pad for sizeperspective)

Via Flickr:
Every day at work, when the mail comes it has this rubber band around it. I didn't want to waste them, so I started saving them. After awhile, they were taking over my drawer. So I started making a rubber band ball. I rolled one up and started putting the other around it. Now...it's bigger than a post-it pad.
