Day 27: Patch Test- Phase 2

Day 27: Patch Test- Phase 2 by lalasappy
Day 27: Patch Test- Phase 2, a photo by lalasappy on Flickr.

Via Flickr:
I look like Frankenstein.

So as you can see...now they have to see the REACTIONS I had to the test...they were about 4 that they saw immediately after they took the patches off...and I go back on Friday to have them check it again. 2 of them are REALLY itchy, but I'm still not allowed to scratch/shower/mess with it in any way.

What a week.

Day 26: Om nom pasta! I was too hungry to take a picture at the beginning...

I did finish those last few bites, so yes Mom, I am a member of the Clean Plate Club!

And I should also mention...aside from the actual noodles - everything was made from scratch! I am awesome.

Day 25: Ever seen a Patch Test before?

Via Flickr:
That is a Patch Allergy Test. It tests for chemical allergies. For my test, I have 130 little squares. The doctor put them on Monday morning. Then I have them taken off on Wednesday morning and they get the first set of results. Then I go back on Friday morning for them to get the second set of results.

And I cannot get them wet. In any way. Even once the actual patches are off. So Lauren is not allowed to shower until FRIDAY AFTERNOON.

....It's not that fun.

Day 24: NYC Pride Day ("Butch on the Inside")

This is my "Buch on the Inside" T-Shirt. I wore it yesterday in honor of NYC Pride. It comes from the show I cut all my hair off for: Lesbian Love Octagon.

NY just passed the marriage equality bill! I'm happy that now all of my friends have equal rights in our state.

I'd also like to share a funny tweet I saw yesterday that I totally identified with:

"Why is it that if I defend gay people, I must *be* gay? If I defend the environment, do you also think I'm a tree? Fine. I'm a gay tree."

Just cause I love all my friends no matter who THEY love, it doesn't change who I am. I am Lauren. I am a girl who likes boys. And I don't judge people. So don't judge me!

Though, if you're reading this, you're probably a friend of mine and you already don't judge me.

But I am throwing the thought out into the universe anyway!

Lovies to you all - gay, straight, whatever!

Day 23: Corneal Abrasion

Day 23: Corneal Abrasion by lalasappy
Day 23: Corneal Abrasion, a photo by lalasappy on Flickr.

Yep. That poor eye has a corneal abrasion. Unless you've suffered one, I don't know that you can comprehend how unpleasant it is. And this is coming from a girl who's already monocular...I've been through the ringer eye-wise. And this was just SCARY.

Today my vision is better, though things far away are still a little blurry. And my eye still hurts a bit. But i'm 10 times better than yesterday. Thank Goodness.

Day 22: Take Your Dog To Work Day

Friday June 24th was Take Your Dog To Work Day!

Charley came in (since he's much calmer than Scouter....) and everyone came over and gave him lovies! He was quiet and sweet and perfect.

...And then I got a corneal abrasion and had to leave work early to go through one of the scariest experiences of my life. More on that later.

But isn't my dog SO CUTE?

Day 21: What I did after work

This Yoga Studio just opened on the floor above mine at work!! I'm so excited to have a studio so close. Plus it's just really cool because Yoga Teachers can rent the space and teach there without having to go through all the hassle of getting "hired" at a studio in NYC. So, friends who teach yoga: COME TEACH HERE AND I'LL COME UPSTAIRS AND TAKE YOUR CLASS!

Day 20: FAIL.

I failed. I forgot to take a picture. Which is sad because it was an exciting day! Fail.

So disappointed in myself. Wah wah wah....

Day 17: Pamela's Hotcakes - Best Ever!!

There are just no words to describe the deliciousness. So rich. So perfect. So bad for me and I just don't care.

But did I mention that I ran 3.6 miles before eating them to try to "even it out"? Well I did.

The Big Apple BBQ Block Party

If you were curious about why my weekend was so incredibly awesome, I'll tell you now. :)

The BIG APPLE BBQ BLOCK PARTY. Yes. The best weekend in New York City. And no, I'm not exaggerating.

My extended family owns an amazing restaurant in Texas called "BAKERS RIBS" and every year, they make the long trek all the way to NYC to sell their amazing BBQ in Madison Square Park. And every year since I've been here, I have attended and helped out! This year, they also brought their new business THE ORIGINAL FRIED PIE SHOP. ...have you ever had a fried pie? For real...amazing. Like ridic. Like....I could eat them every day and not get sick of them.

So here are some photos from my fabulous weekend. If you're an NYC resident, I highly recommend attending next year. If you're not in NYC...well, you should just come up next year. It's a Fo' Real blast.

Baker's Delicious Ribs cookin'

This is Dan. Dan made Bacon Wrapped Cream Cheese Stuffed Jalapenos. They might be my favorite part of the Big Apple BBQ. And they may have burned my mouth for over 15 minutes.

I was working in the Fried Pie truck all Saturday. Loadin' pies into the oven. Om nom nom.

I got to eat one after my shift! I had Apple. Again I say...Om nom nom!

Bakers Ribs and Original Fried Pie Shop - The best of the Big Apple BBQ!

There are no words to describe the awesomeness. :)

Day 14 - If I had to drink only one thing the rest of my life, it would be:

Diet Pepsi. It is my drug.

Day 13: Charley watching TV. Me watching Charley.

Another Charley post. But I'm in here too. :)

Words of Wisdom from Dick Van Dyke:

"I am a people person. My life has been a magnificent indulgence. I've been able to do what I love and share it. Who would want to quit? I suppose that I never completely gave up my childhood idea of being a minister. Only the medium and the message have changed. I have still endeavored to touch people's souls, to raise their spirits and put smiles on their faces."

-From his Memoir "DICK VAN DYKE: My Lucky Life In and Out of Show Business"

I just love the way he describes being an actor. It really cuts to the core of why I love theatre.

Just wanted to share. :)

PS: Looking for a good book to read? Read his memoir. So entertaining and inspiring. He really has lived a lucky life. And it made me fall in love with Bert the Chimney Sweep all over again.

Day 12: Red red bed. Let me at it!

Last night my bed just looked so inviting. I decided it was photo-worthy.

Day 11-2: Charley "Happy Boy" (I couldn't do one without the other!)

Charley's my happy boy...that's what I call him...because as long as I'm there, he's happy. That's me he's staring at longingly...just hoping I'll put down the iPhone and pick him up.

Day 11: Scout at her happiest

She's a blur. She has two settings: on and off. This is on.

This. Weekend. Was. Fun.

That's like all I can say. This weekend was SUPER FUN.

The end.

Day 10: Bacon Wrapped Jalapenos?? Yes please!

My absolute favorite thing about Big Apple BBQ would be Joe's Bacon Wrapped, Cream Cheese Stuffed Jalapenos. And this year they did NOT disappoint. One of them literally left my mouth burning for about 10 minutes. LOVE 'em.

Here's a strange one for ya...Look at the subtotal. Look at the tax. Add them up. Now look at the total. ...where'd that extra 2 cents come from??! ...Turns out I guess some restaurants now don't use pennies or nickels? So they round up to the nearest 10. Wow.

PS:

Just noticed this:

Days 1 & 2: My Face
Days 3 & 4: Shoes
Days 5 & 6: Food/Drink

...What do I need to avoid taking a picture of tomorrow to break this pattern?

(PS: I can almost garauntee that either Saturday or Sunday - or both - will be food again... It's that kind of weekend!!)

Day 7 - What I look at all day long

HA! I figured out what to take a picture of.

(if that sentence confused you...see blog post below)

Also, can you tell what webpage I have open on the right? BLOGGER. Hehe.

Pictureless...so far.

I can't decide what to take a picture of today. Nothing has really sparked my interest.

I almost took a picture of the salad I had for lunch...but I took a food picture last time. And it wasn't THAT interesting. (it was a SALAD, after all...)

Days at work are boring so I don't really feel inspired. But even on my errands, I was at a loss!

Hmmmm....

Day 6 - Dessert

Boy's going away for 2 weeks so we made tacos and had special dessert tonight. Homemade Coldstone! Chocolate Ice Cream, Oreos and Cherry Pie Filling. Deeeeelish!

It's all about perspective.

I have a good life. I'm relatively healthy, relatively happy, relatively successful. I'm loved.

Some days...I don't feel that way. Some days I can' see the big picture. Or the small picture. Or I can't see the picture at all. All I see is the mess in front of me. Or inside me. Or all around me.

And then, I have a moment. A moment like I had today.

Walking down 29th street to run an errand for work. I look up into the sky. It was SO blue. It was warm. It's June. And I thought, "Lauren: It's a beautiful summer day and you live in New York City. Embrace this. Relish in it. Enjoy it."

I could've thought, "It's really hot...I'm tired...I don't want to be at work...I feel fat in this dress."

But instead, I focused on blue, blue sky. And sunshine. And summertime. And the warmth of the sun on my skin. And my sunglasses...because they're awesome.

I just took a moment to change my perspective. And it brightened my day.

Again I say...blog readers: Whenever I get down, remind me to go read this entry and focus on the good and the love in my life. There's a lot of both.

Lovies. :)

A Photo A Day For A Year

I've decided to take a photo a day for a year. I've seen some friends do it and now I just can't help but give it a try.

I started June 3...meant to start June 1. Forgot. Whoops.

So that's what's about to start popping up on this blog. (as well as my usual blah dee blah posts)

You can also follow it on instagram (lalasappy) and flickr.com (lalasappy) !

Starbucks Update

I'm fairly certain I am now getting special treatment at my Starbucks. :)

I order. I go over and stand in the little waiting area. Starbucks Guy says hello, asks how I'm doing. We chat briefly. Then, it happens:

"What are you waiting on?"

I tell him my order.

Probably less than 60 seconds later, my order appears.

...And the people who had been waiting for 3 or 4 minutes look at me like "...who the heck are you?"

I smile and walk out of there feeling like a rock star. A starbucks rock star.

Don't judge me. I'm just that awesome.
